Mary Glasspool Approved: Episcopal Church OKs Election Of Second Gay Bishop

Big whoop. The Episcopal press machine is in overdrive, as usual. The "official" Episcopal church line, taken from Grace Cathedral SF literature is that the national church is still in a process of discernment, resulting in "Reconciling" congregations vs. mainstream vs. rebellious "Anglican" (no women, no queers) varieties. The 7th ranked Episcopalians are behind the curve, still stalled with the United Methodists: some queers welcome, but forget about priests.

Nationally, the big news (ELCA Lutheran national body decides clergy in committed same-sex relationships may serve on an equal basis, without a celibacy requirement) happened back in November, and got almost no coverage from the national press. Lutherans are fourth-ranked if the hating Missouri Synod is included (just as Episcopalians include schismatic Anglicans and wobbly mainstreamers in their counts).

The real news: ELCA Lutherans welcome all to the bus, and anyone can drive. Episcopalians are still debating who can sit where and do what - but they're quick to point out that the "straights only" signs have been removed, whether or not straights still control the driving privileges.
